ASSA ABLOY Acquires Amarr Garage Doors

ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems, an access-control and specialty door manufacturer, has signed an agreement to acquire Amarr Garage Doors, a manufacturer and distributor of residential and commercial garage doors, openers, flooring, and screens. Amarr has sales of about $300 million annually, 1,200 employees, and operates door centers in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

“Amarr is another strategic step in our growth strategy to become the industry leader in entrance automation,” said Juan Vargus, ASSA ABLOY executive vice president and president and CEO of ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems. “It gives us a strong footprint in North America and further reinforces our global position in sectional doors.”

The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close during the fourth quarter of 2013.

“We are excited to join forces with the ASSA ABLOY group and will continue to drive growth and expansion through our extensive dealer network across North America,” said Amarr CEO Richard Brenner.

ASSA ABLOY has market positions in Asia, Europe, North America, and the Pacific, and employs 42,000 around the world. The company was formed in 1994 when Assa, a Swedish security firm merged with Abloy, a Finnish high-security lock manufacturer. The company’s products include locks and lock systems, wireless locks, door automation, access-control products, security doors, and keyless entrance systems.

Founded in 1951, Amarr Garage Doors is headquartered in Winston-Salem, N.C., and operates 75 distribution centers.
