More Americans Celebrating the 4th in ‘09

A reported 5 million more Americans will be celebrating the Fourth of July holiday by hosting or attending a BBQ or party this year, according to the Los Angeles Times.

This is due to the holiday falling on a Saturday, and means that more people will be doing the requisite spending that comes with celebrating a holiday – sales of party decorations, food, fireworks, festive clothing and more will jump this week, which is music to retailers ears (who noticed slumped sales for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Easter).

Not to mention, consumers’ views of the economy seem to be looking up, and many feel more compelled to relax and enjoy time off with family and friends.
